Masonic Village Child Care Center Reaches for the STARS
Shown at fall family night are (l-r) Jamie Weisser and her son, Owen. Next to them are Jordin Meyers and her mother and Masonic Village Child Care Center teacher, Angie Meyers. Utilizing research-based best practices to promote high quality early learning environments and positive child outcomes, the Masonic Village Child Care Center, managed by Hildebrandt Learning Centers, LLC, has earned a Keystone STAR Four rating, the highest possible, from the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL).
Keystone STARS is an initiative of OCDEL to improve, support and recognize the continuous quality improvement efforts of early learning programs in Pennsylvania. Each STAR indicates a quality standard level. The levels and are based on results in four key areas: staff education and training, learning environments for children, leadership and management, and family and community partnerships.
To earn this rating, Masonic Village Child Care Center requires staff to obtain 18 more training hours than the law requires each year. The Early Childhood Environmental Rating System (ECERS), a nationally recognized assessment system, evaluates the center every two years, most recently giving the Masonic Village Child Care Center an average score of 6.31 out of 7.0. A score of only 5.25 is required.
"Believing that all children deserve the best possible start in life, we know it is essential for our program to strive to reach for the highest quality standards," Rose Snyder, center director, said. "We are committed to being partners with families in our community as together we strive to make a difference for children. Research shows that learning begins at birth (even before birth), and if we make the investment in children today, the outcome for life will be improved. Their future is in our hands, and we can make a difference for children through quality initiatives such as Keystone STARS."
The Masonic Village Child Care Center is open to the community and accommodates 116 children who are divided into classrooms according to their developmental age. The center cares for children from 6 weeks through 6 years and also offers a full-day Pennsylvania Department of Education licensed kindergarten program and a summer camp for children in 1st - 5th grades. It is accredited with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The center operates Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is located at One Masonic Drive in Elizabethtown. Contact the center director via email or (717) 367-1121, ext. 33375 for more information.
