Joseph E. Murphy, Chief Executive Officer

Joseph E. Murphy, N.H.A., joined the Masonic Homes in 1974. He served as Executive Director/CEO for the Masonic Homes from January 1983 to December 1997. He currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Masonic Villages' operations at Dallas, Elizabethtown, Lafayette Hill, Sewickley and Warminster, Pa.

The Governor appointed Mr. Murphy to serve on the Intra-Governmental Council on Long Term Care from 1998 to 2005. In February 2008, the Governor appointed him to the Pennsylvania Senior Care and Services Study Commission, where he still serves.

Mr. Murphy is a past president of the Masonic Communities Association; he served as a member of the House of Delegates for the American Association of Homes and Services to the Aging (AAHSA); and is a past president of the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Association of Non-Profit Homes for the Aging (PANPHA).

Mr. Murphy received his bachelor's degree in business administration at the Pennsylvania State University. He is a licensed Pennsylvania Nursing Home Administrator.

Mr. Murphy is a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and honorary member of the Elizabethtown Rotary Club.

He is a member of Abraham C. Treichler Lodge No. 682, Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, Harrisburg Consistory, York Rite Chapter and Council, and Zembo Shrine. He is a past president of the Elizabethtown High Twelve Club and served on the Advisory Board of the Elizabethtown Chapter of DeMolay. He received the 33rd degree in August 1996; the Pennsylvania Franklin Medal in December 2005; and the Chapel of Four Chaplains Humanitarian Award in 1988. Mr. Murphy also received the 2007 PANPHA Paul P. Hass Lifetime Achievement Award.
