Conoy Creek Open House at Masonic Village

A portion of the Conoy Creek, located on the grounds of the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown, has received a much-needed facelift in the form of legacy sediment removal and is ready for its public unveiling. The community is invited to attend an open house and educational event on Saturday, May 22, from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m., to learn how the project has contributed to improved local water resources, re-established six acres of wetlands and enhanced wildlife habitat.

The event will include stream walks, a fly fishing demonstration, a water testing demonstration, activities for children, and representatives from Lancaster County Conservation District and the Conoy Creek Watershed Association showcasing sediment examples and watershed information.

Beginning in 2008, Masonic Village, in conjunction with several local organizations, has been restoring the creek as a result of a Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Growing Greener II grant and funding from Masonic Village. Centuries of nutrient-laden sediments were removed and 3,200 feet of the creek's floodplain was restored. The site of the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown was selected 100 years ago in-part because of the natural resources the land offered, and protecting and preserving these resources remains a high priority today.

Parking for the event will be available off of Serpentine Road, by the large fish pond. After entering the campus from Bainbridge Road, follow parking signs from Shrine Road to Serpentine Road.
