Masonic Villages Hurricane Sandy Response
For information about specific Masonic Village locations, please see below.
Masonic Village at Dallas
Our Masonic Village at Dallas lost power for a while during Sandy's visit, and the Clubhouse was closed for a few days. Things are back to normal now, thank goodness!
Masonic Village at Elizabethtown
What an incredible team we have! Nearly all staff made it in during the bad weather, and checked before they left to assure every aspect of our operations were covered. Residents in our Masonic Health Care Center and Freemason Building were well cared for and didn't notice any interruption in care or services. Retirement Living residents were asked to stay inside and call the operator with significant issues – and they did. Shuttle buses ran on campus so residents could get to meals. Security did extra patrols and kept close eye on our residents and property – even the ponds and streams. Maintenance staff ensured someone was here and available at all times should an emergency arise and had contingency plans for any possible scenario. At the first word of the severe weather, our landscape department began clearing leaves from walks and roads, assuring debris was out of gutters and made sure all storm drains were clear. The food service department developed a plan for dining services (with and without electricity) for residents in all areas, and some staff who stayed overnight. The switchboard operators fielded numerous calls, calming residents and keeping everyone alert to any issues. We made our campus available to the Elizabethtown Borough in case anyone from the community was evacuated. Housekeeping and Event Planning staff prepared the Masonic Conference Center in the event it was needed to house staff or the community. Public Relations got the word out on Facebook and the website so that families and others knew that our residents were safe. Fortunately, our campus escaped the storm with minimal damage. Four trees were blown down, and a few shrubs and trees that were recently planted need repositioned and staked. Over the next few days, our Landscape staff will be working to clean up debris (twigs, leaves and deadwood). We are extremely grateful to our staff who were willing to go above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly over the past couple days!
Masonic Village at Lafayette Hill
Our staff does a great job every day; however, in times of unusual circumstances, they always manage to "kick it up" to another level. We had staff offer to provide transportation/carpool, sleep over Monday night, stay to work another shift, come in early, and show up without being scheduled to ensure continued service. One of our employees left her home at 5:30 a.m. and didn't get to work until 8:30 am. - she just kept trying different ways until she got there! We are extremely thankful for our dedicated and kind-hearted staff.
Masonic Village Sewickley
We're pleased to report that Hurricane Sandy was a non-event for our Sewickley community, with just a few rainy days. Our staff were prepared for the worst, regardless, and ready and willing to do whatever needed to ensure our residents' care and services would remain intact.
Masonic Village at Warminster
Our Warminster campus regained power Thursday afternoon! Many thanks to our dedicated staff who worked so hard to ensure our residents' lives were impacted as little as possible. Some stayed overnight as needed, and others found creative ways to keep our residents comfortable, well fed and entertained. We also appreciate the extra time and effort extended by our Elizabethtown Maintenance staff, who made some extra trips out to Warminster to provide extra generator power. Teamwork and Mission is what it's all about!
