1950-1959

  • May 27, 1951: Nurses Memorial Home (now the Village Apartments) dedication
  • June 6, 1953: The electric chimes in the tower of Patton Hall, installed in memory of the alumni who served in World War II, rang for the first time.
  • 1953: The Allegheny Building became the Allegheny Rest Home and provided care for people who could not completely take care of themselves, but did not need hospital services. This idea was the beginning of what is now called personal care.
  • 1954: Patton boys enlarged Memorial Hall and added more classroom space and shower and dressing rooms for athletics.
  • May 1955: The Pennsylvania Power and Light Company inaugurated electrical service to the Masonic Village, and accordingly, the power plant stopped generating electricity.
  • 1956: A 5-by-6-foot, one-mile-long, underground walk-in tunnel was built to carry the utilities from the power house to the Grand Lodge Hall.
  • May 25, 1957: Dedication of a new hospital wing and renovations to the Philadelphia Freemasons' Memorial Hospital
  • April 26, 1958: Dedication of the Masonic Village's Masonic Lodge and Recreation Building
  • 1959: Renovations to the fourth floor of the west wing of the Philadelphia Freemasons' Memorial Hospital provided room for a total of 290 residents.
